Essendon Airport owners Lindsay Fox and Max Beck are upping their commercial offering, by adding the country's first Hyatt-branded business hotel to Melbourne's second terminal. The 160-room Hyatt Place hotel and adjoining 1700-square-metre conference centre will serve not just the airport's aviation-related businesses but also the growing local population, Essendon Fields chief executive Chris Cowan told The Australian Financial Review on Tuesday. The management company had "a couple of hundred" Hyatt Place-branded hotels in its home US market, with about 100 more in planning and construction around the world, 50 of which were in the Asia-Pacific, Mr [Robert] Dawson [Hyatt VP Pacific] said. "It's a question of finding the right location," he said. "This is the beginning of what we hope will be other destinations in Australia."
