AA 'W' Fare Class - Avios and Tier Points

Hi,

I have a trip coming up that will take me from Bahrain to Chicago on a one way ticket.

There are options issued by both AA and BA in WT+, that work will pay for, the AA ticket would be booked into W class on both long haul legs, the BA issued ticket is marginally more and would be issued in T class on the long hauls.

On the AA website, W class is correctly showing as fully flex premium economy, as on ITA Matrix. Yet the tier point calculator shows AA W class as being discound economy and earning only 50% avios / tps (which I want to avoid).

Would anyone have any experience or advice in this matter?

Cheers
