BA swore improvements before starting cuts, and AF went through drastic cuts both after and before improving. I'd say that promises come with an expiry date. They are valid 1-2 years and then everything is game.
The best bit about the answer is: we will never introduce radical changes to our Elite customers. That's what I like about. BA has made huge changes and downgrades and it applies to everyone from non EC member to Gold which is frustrating. Even American, Qatar and Finnair value us and give us some additional attention and free stuff.
