I was on one of the TWA planes equipped with AA-style seats yesterday. I was assigned seat 20D, and 20E was empty. But when I sat down, it was the most uncomfortable seat I've ever felt on an MD80. A close look at the seats across the aisle revealed that the exit row seats on this plane had shorter, thinner seat cushions than the regular rows! Is this normal?? It was bad enough that I'll avoid these seats on TWA planes in the future. Fortunately, yesterday's flight was fairly empty, and I was able to move back to 24AB, where I was far more comfortable.
