You don't want a new voucher. You want to change the dummy UA only reservation to the revised reservation with your prefer flights.

Not sure I understand the $200 concern, all the new money is refundable and the trip to Japan will take more than $200 additional if the ETC is $200.
But yes to changing an OW to RT or domestic vs International is possible -- may raise curious questions from the phone agent but completely legit.
