I've used the MVP rate around 40 times in the past two years in something like 10 different states at a variety of Hilton brands. To date:
* One front desk clerk remarked something to the effect of "Oooh, you're on an 'MVP rate.'"
* Nobody has ever mentioned the sports affliation, much less asked for proof.

I have a USGA membership (which gives you a plastic membership ID card) in case anyone ever decides to ask.
Only once was my use of MVP rate mentioned... and that was an advance call from the property sale's office. They noticed my affiliation and used it as a lead hoping for a potential tip to scouting for a future event venue. This property's sales team also hosted an open bar once a week in the C-lounge to network with their guests. That night usually had a 2-1 ratio of guests to staff.....
