If BA have cabin baggage rules on size & rules on sports equipment going in the hold, why are you trying to buck the system.
Other passengers could equally argue they have just bought their weekly shop in T5, which is oversize & why cant they take them as cabin baggage.

I asked the question in the first place, because I've seen quite a few tennis rackets (and bags) onboard. I presumed, incorrectly, that BA allowed them on. However, the BA website makes clear they should be checked-in.
Had I seen one or two rackets over the past 12 months, I'd have thought nothing of it. However, I've seen many, and that makes me query the rule.
I wholly accept the argument of 'just because people do it, doesn't make it correct'.
