Thanks navylad that is very interesting information.

But for the record I think you may have meant to say Radon gas (not Argon) which is typically found in granite rich areas and is secondary to decay of natural Uranium.
Whoops, yes sorry obvious mistake! <blush>. Argon is an interesting element (or rather the isotypes are; with Argon 39 being responsible for some of the background radiation f as a result of cosmic rays) and its important half-life being sufficient to provide background radiation.

Interestingly, and before anyone in the south west starts moving homes, if you look at a map of all cancers, Cornwall doesn't actually fare too bad, presumbale this is because of other factors that do influence cancer risk; some of which are non-modifiable (gender, genetics) and some that definately are (smoking, drinking, lack of exercise etc. ). I'm not quite at the Daily Mail stage of going through life as trying to classify everything into those that stop and start cancers (with somethings apparently in both catergories).

|I do miss living in Cornwall, it was great to be on the beach 30 minutes after finishing work and it even makes up for the airport development fee at \newquay and stupidly high car park charges.
