I stayed in this hotel about a year ago and also witnessed a couple get jumped outside the hotel. I also commented about this on Trip Advisor and added that hotel staff did all that could be expected of them. Downtown BsAs like most Latin American downtown areas is somewhat chippy.
There are a few big chain hotels in Latin America that spring to mind that are in questionable areas. Sheraton Lima, Hampton Inn Mexico City, Crowne Plaza Tequendama Bogotá to name but a few.
Worth remembering that centrally located or downtown does not mean safe in Latin America. Worth doing your homework and seeing which areas are upmarket residential or entertainment districts.
