I think for some JAL flights to Okinawa you have to call BA regardless of when you book (e.g. those operated by "Japan Transocean").

Also check the "Sakitoku" fares which can be a great value (and you can often get a very cheap upgrade to J which is basically the same as the Y product but will give you 40 TPs if you need them).
