For some reason, connecting via JFK/IAD/BOS is much pricier (up to 500$ more) than ORD/ATL/SAN/DFW/PHX for my dates.

LAX direct would have been the obvious choice except that I will be stuck with an AA 77W, which I have been on many times and is congested in Y, as opposed to a first time 787 experience via ORD, or a 3-3-3 in a BA 777 via ATL.
