I need to book SFO-BWI.
On DL, it's $400 for Y or $600 for J.
But a J seat takes up twice the real estate as a Y seat.
So how is it even remotely sensible for them to charge these prices? At $800, they're not covering the food/drink I'll consume. They'd need to charge at least $850 to make it worthwhile over just replacing J with Y.
LOL. If you are consuming more than $200 USD in alcohol and food on a flight (at cost) you will be in the hospital in BWI getting treated for alcohol poisoning, not in your meeting.
Having said that, you are right. That is exactly the cost difference I see a lot on UA and DL. Not as a LMU, but at time of purchase. So what do I do? Book on Concur at the corporate rate and then call in and pay for the upgrade 5 minutes later. For me, it is a no brainer.
