No additional coverage offered or mentioned - nor do I believe any airline affected has been offering. I have flown the route four times since the start of the ban and have not had baggage tampered with (not even attempted).

I suppose you can gate check your bag, but it seems like quite a waste of time for all people involved (the army checking the bags, the ground staff, yourself and all other passengers in the queue waiting to get into the gate area).
