Yeah, here's the lengthy discussion over in the UA forum.

Basic reason is that if the cabin is darker, then more people will go to sleep, which means less work for the FAs.
I have read it a few times, I get that people want to sleep etc. Maybe dim it down a bit, but not pitch black
