This has been my experience as well.
You definitely have to check the hotline fare against the published fares available to the public, because in some instances hotline is not cheaper (due I suppose to dynamic pricing / magic algorithms).
I've used hotline for Iberia bookings without issue. TPs and Avios credited as normal.
