AC doesn't care about the reason for travelling so the family reunion, etc. is interesting to CBC but has no relevance to what they owe.
What about the difference in fare from when they booked to day of departure?

When was it "revoked"? Why was it revoked?

Seems like there are some important questions to be answered.
