The one time I asked to be upgraded at the JFK gate I was declined and asked to pay for it.

I usually book EMS seats on points but this week I decided to book a regular seat and try again at the gate as it is a short flight. Let's see what happens.

To answer the original poster, no added benefits that I'm aware of though I've heard of events for "top mosaics". Not sure how they define that though.
