Does anyone remember what happened shortly after AC was ordered to compensate more for passengers bumped from domestic flights? Fares increased slightly within the same fare buckets, and then more booking classes got moved from Flex to Tango (which effectively raised Flex fares quite a bit). While it cannot be definitively stated that the CTA order caused the fare increase, the timing did make the correlation suspicious.
I would prefer if AC could proactively make changes to its denied boarding policy to be more in line with that of Delta, but I don't see it happening. Air Canada does not have a culture of empowering their front line employees, unlike Delta or even the now infamous United.
I still support overbooking and IDB as a tool to deal with safety related issues (equipment payload restrictions during bad weather for example), but I think VDB can and should be handled in an auction.
