I have always assumed this is not automatic because many have a prohibition against booking domestic F. So they need the initial receipt to reflect economy and then you come back and take the instant upgrade.
Ah ok the flag definitely wasn't there when I booked, but I went into the RPUs and I believe the option was there to upgrade (really can't remember if it was available or simply waitlisted).
I don't know if the flags (for both flights) didn't appear due to a lack of availability, or the fact that it's part of an international itinerary issued by ANA (not codeshare for the domestic flights).
Assuming the flag's available, does it mean the whole process can be done online without any need to call in? Because the agent I spoke to said to call in immediately next time the moment I get ticketed.
