Unruly Air Asia ground staff at Bangalore Airport

A few months ago , me and my wife flew from Bangalore to Hyderabad on Airasia. We were checking in 2 bags. I paid for an extra 5 kgs online for one of the bags but did not think we needed to carry any more than that. During the check process, the 2nd bag exceeded by 5 kgs. The guy checking-in the bags noticed that , changed his tone and started to argue with my wife about the extra weight. When I interrupted he again raised his tone and started lecturing that we should plan ahead and not to exceed the 15kg limit again. Not once did he ask me to pay for the extra baggae , which I was more than willing to pay. The last I checked , it isn't a crime to exceed the 15kg baggage limit , especially when I am willing to pay for the additional weight. It soon turned into a heated argument and the guy started to threaten to call the cops. Since I was running out of time to board the flight , I told him that I did not want to miss the flight and whether there was any way I could just pay for the extra few kgs of baggage. He finally agreed to just charge me for an extra 5 kgs , which I was happy to pay. I barely made it to the flight but the whole process was a bit daunting. I eventually wrote to air asia customer service , and explained about the rude behaviour of the check in agent. To my surprise, I received a response that I was posing a security risk to the flight since my baggage exceeded their free allowance. Keep in mind that the bag barely weighed 20kgs and I was more than happy to pay for the extra weight. Since then I have been avoiding Air Asia flights but the incident has left me quite puzzled. Is it really a crime to try to check in a 20 kgs bag on Air Asia? How should I have responded to the situation ? Am I in the wrong ?
