The CBC did indeed used to receive a billion dollars per year of federal money, but endured many years of budget cuts throughout the Harper era. They bottomed out in 2015, and are set to receive progressive increases as announced in the link above. Keep in mind the CBC is a public entity, not a private company that receives "over $1B of public money" like certain aircraft manufacturers out there.

2015: $525M
2016: $675M
2017: $825M
