8% off invoice is fine. But the non-rev/buddy pass system is the equivalent of using a loaner E63 off hours and on the weekend. Kind of dilutes the brand image if you see 30 on the road when the weather is nice.
I'm not arguing about the benefit; like OP said, it's a curious branding decision.
FWIW this doesn't affect me personally in the least. I fly for schedule/price in the US now.
