Clearly causes much angst in the group but a swap is found. Contact Virgin.
We'd like to change this booking as xxx has sadly committed suicide. Oh very sorry to hear that, forward a certified copy of death certificate and we will arrange a free switch for you.
An inquest had yet to be held but the coroners interim death certificate has been issued. Forward a certified copy to VS, oh really sorry thatts not a death certificate we need a proper death certificate..
To avoid any further grief or anxiety in the fraught group we clubbed together and purchased a new ticket for the replacement person.
Arrived at LHR on departure day and boarding card in the deceased name printed off instead of the name of the new addition to the group. Cause no end of grief and upset. The group made the best of the trip but on arrival at JFK for the return you've guessed it the same boarding card was reprinted.
A strongly worded letter to VS followed. To be fair SRB did personally call the partner of the deceased passenger to apologise and sent them flowers and donated a few flights for the charity football match that we held to raise money for the SAD charity to provide light boxes to those that suffer depression in the winter months it the total lack of empathy in the whole situation (rules are rules, can't think out of the box) and then their laziness/poor administration with the replacement passenger had put me off Virgin for life.
What a tragic story and upsetting to hear that VS wouldn't take a coroner approved interim death certificate as proof, I can't imagine flowers and free flights would make up for that level of poor customer service, but glad some charity funding may have come as a result.
