You can bet every bumped passenger would have been placed on standby for the next flight, and so on, and there was one more flight that night. He might have been home that night anyway. From the video we've seen, it's unknown whether the Dr. knew everything about the situation, and it doesn't appear the Dr. was interested in finding out either.
