So if Visa goes online with all contactless, no contactless offline at the pump in Europe?

I did buy some gas in Spain at the last minute. But I didn't see if there was an option to pay at the pump. Instead the signage seemed to indicate you had to go pay the cashier first so I went inside but then they said I could pump first.

They had a 10 Euro and 1 Euro button. I pushed the 10 Euro button once and it stopped. I thought maybe I needed about 5 Euro more so I pushed the 10 Euro button again but it was almost full.

Total amount was like 11 Euros. Again I didn't see an obvious way to pay at the pump so I went inside, used Apple Pay on a customer-facing terminal at the counter.

Real test would have been to go to an unmanned station, which are often unmanned in the middle of the day in Italy and Spain and late at night.
