According to the first page, if the D bucket has availability, I can use a joker to open up a seat in the CW cabin.
Checked "upgrade with money or Avios" from WT+, and there's no availability this way.
Does this tell me I can actually open a seat up and then use a GUF?
The upgrade with avios part won't work unless there is normal reward availability on your flights in CW, which would negate the Joker need. If there is D class availability showing on EF, then the joker will open it up for you to use a GUF to move yourself forward, have done it myself a few times.
