There is a good chance that it is a scam and that you will never see your money and an equal chance that it is an undercover operation by HH or DL to catch people selling their points/miles. The consequence if the latter is that your accounts would be zeroed out and closed.
Don't get yourself in the middle of these frauds. The last thing you need right now is more stress.
Yeah, it doesn't pass the sniff test for me either, I wouldn't feel comfortable with attempting to sell the points. Even if it was legit, how would they transfer them to their accounts? I can't even move AA miles to my wife without paying an exorbitant "gift" fee that offsets the value of the miles.
Maybe you can redeem your points for someone who needs a flight? Then they can give you a cash gift as a sign of appreciation?
