Tier points with partner airlines on connecting flights

Hi

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I was wondering how tier point collection works with partner airlines where there are connecting flights.

With BA, we are credited with tier points in respect of each segment of the journey (e.g. SFO to LHR and LHR to LBA both give separate tier point allocations).

However last year we flew with AA from MAN to LAS via PHL but appear to have only received tier points for one long haul flight from MAN to LAS.

We flew economy lowest fare class - so not expecting that many points - but 20 each way for MAN to LAS via PHL doesn't feel correct based on the minimum tier points in the flight calculator on the BA website, as this would suggest 25 (5 for MAN to PHL + 20 for PHL to LAS)?

Any thoughts appreciated.
