If you're flying AA because you can upgrade with accumulated miles, then AA doesn't have to worry about you paying UA for a ticket on that flight. I suppose you could switch loyalty from AA to UA over the lounge issue, but that seems a bit attenuated.
btw, JL has a flat bed in J.
