This is a quite common occurrence in VN and I have experienced multiple occasions myself with either my name or my other half's.

While calling the airline directly to rectify this upfront, most of the time they are restricted by the system to re-issue/re-ticket or cannot do any changes at all due to the fare rules. However, the check-in staff are quite used to the situation and will usually print the boarding pass as per booking but then correct it in handwriting with an official airport stamp.

I am sure you will be fine explaining the situation to them.
