it was initially paid for for 2 weeks, then on the phone the lady told me it was paid for for 4 weeks (not possible, i used a citibank virtual account # for $10 for it...so $10 for 4 weeks seems cheap...!)
then i found out i could cancel earlier, and did so asap.
i just had the number in excel to make it easier on me once they send the final bill

to summarize: get NYT, cancel as soon as the points show up and all you'll pay is $3-$6 (for 1-2 weeks) - hope this helps!
