4WD is not guaranteed in the Intermediate or Standard SUV class, although you might get lucky. Unless you reserve one of the higher-end SUV models (and even then it's not always 100%), you are unlikely to get 4WD. If you definitely want/need 4WD, then a Jeep Wrangler is your best bet in Hawaii.
