There is absolutely no doubt that the exact same cards were presented as were used to book the flights, I'd only booked the trip two or three days earlier. I also checked my accounts online while we waited at check in and I could see the transactions.

So in my case the answer was yes, we flew, but I still don't know what the problem was.
