I completely agree. For me I value the flexibility of WN tickets and see the option value in holding onto Wanna Get Away fares until departure time (i.e. option expiry) since I oftentimes like to take last minute trips. If I don't forget, I try to cancel tickets for which my chances of using them are very low since at that point the option value to me is far lower than the benefit to WN and other passengers who would benefit from a confirmed seat earlier than t-10 (how altruistic, right?).

I suppose my new understanding of security fee refundability (old tickets forfeited, new tickets saved as travel funds) changes the calculus a bit and will encourage me to cancel more proactively and be less nonchalant in speculative bookings.
