My opinion will differ from DSI, but I agree Amansara is pricey.
Sofitel I didn't check out.
Park Hyatt has nice but standard rooms (lead-in). The pool suites are under renovation. The presidential/signature suites are quite nice. The common areas don't appeal to me. Lots of add-ons required once you're at the property, which also goes for many of the others; e.g. USD 110 per person per tour, mini-bar will be charged etc.
Raffles just feels too stiff and colonial (not in a good way). Nice pool, but no one seemed to want to use it. Large property. But it has probably the best location (along with Amansara), and the little food I had was pretty sad.
Belmond was an absolute disaster of a hotel. Lovely pool though (save for the crowds).
Anantara has a few inclusions and is actually quite nice, but the location is horrid. The food was brilliant. Mini-bar is included here if I recall correctly. Note that this isn't Virtuoso but will extend Virtuoso-like benefits.
Amansara - if you're not going when the property is full this might be worth it for the potential double-upgrade to a private pool suite (you'll need a nice pool; it gets hot in Siem Reap). The tour guides are fantastic. Sadly, food at Amansara was not great (it was average). But the team are very helpful in crafting a good itinerary with great suggestions on where to eat locally. As DSI mentioned this, this is really pricey - but once you're in, you probably won't be paying much more than what you've already paid.
Phum Baitang is stunning - location is fine for temple visits, but not great if you want to frequent main town, especially at night. Food was average. Give this place time to grow; sadly the private pool villas lack any privacy.
Heritage Suites and FCC don't belong in this forum at all, but Heritage Suites has a nice lobby/bar that would make for a good drinks spot. Same goes for FCC with its restaurant.
Thanks. I ended up booking the PH because it was at a great rate, liked the location, won't be spending a lot of time at the hotel.
