Take the bullet train. Quick, comfortable, frequent, and delays are rare. Crowne Plaza in Jinan is quite new, nice rooms, but bkfast is so so,and is far from the train station (30-60' depending on traffic). The new Melia, is right on the station, so it might suit you better if you arrive on BA's morning flight and want to rest early.
No point taking a flight within China, unless its more than 2 hours long, or the city has no high speed train.
The problem with the train (if you don't plan on taking a break in Beijing) is that BJ South is close to an hour from PEK. As such, I grudgingly recommend flying PEK-TNA. Flying via ICN is also an option that I wouldn't completely rule out (much nicer airport than PEK, but only 2 flights/day to TNA and no train fallback option).
