Well, after a pretty reasonable year, BA have started doing this again
LHR-JNB in CW, 6 dinner options (two starter, four main), 5 cheese based plus a cheesecake dessert, but breakfasts were 3/5 no cheese (hooray)
JNB-LHR, however, 6/6 dinner and 4/4 breakfast all contained cheese (dessert was not cheese, but as my main meal consisted of a few bits of fruit and a handful of chocolate bars, more sweet did not appeal)
The FAs were really great, and tried every cabin to find me something - every single main meal option in all four cabins had cheese (or fromage frais or creme fraiche)
FC had a duck salad starter that had no cheese, but it was too popular and none were left
As someone else here said, I don't expect all menu items to be cheese-free, but at least one per course per cabin would display some consideration - and frankly, some imagination
