'X' with APC

So every time I have used the APC machines at YUL or YYZ CBP Preclearance, I always get an 'X'. I have always assumed that it was because the machines were doing biometric analysis, and I do not have glasses in my passport photo. I few forums told me that the camera used to take a photo does a very broad biometric check, and that there is another reason behind the 'X'.

I have been going to the Secondary Inspection Area/Immigration multiple times in the past view years at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel because I had to renew NAFTA status...

I proceeded to ask two different agents at different airports on different flights about why this continues to happen. They responded by saying that there was an error with the information that the airline gave, but the APC always show the correct flight data...

With a similar system coming to CBSA, I would like to check if this has something to do with the biometric photo or if there is something on my US Immigration file. How should I proceed?
