Hilton is offering it. It IS the rules. It IS earned. EVERY program offers some sort of fast track/status match, even airlines. It is no different from a running promotion. Its a business rewards program, not an accolade or trophy. It's nothing more than having multiple methods in order to obtain a reward.
However too many people (such as the person complaining about fast trackers) treat it like a trophy/accolade. All you're doing is spending money, don't feel too up yourself you're doing it 'legit'. You're literally doing nothing of value but spending money and you want to feel better than others.
