I wonder if you could check-in online on, say, a UA ticket, keep your frequent flier number off the record and then send in the online boarding passes to a UA partner (US, AC etc.) for credit without ever taking a flight? I am not sure if alliance partners actually check with one another when boarding passes are sent in.
