I noticed the T-Mobile page regarding this benefit says you must make a Wifi call before boarding the plane to activate this feature:

I wonder if it was to crack down on this sort of usage.
Regardless of the ethics of the above, if it is limited to an hour, and you use private mode to use multiple hours on the same flight, that seems questionable too.
