It does reward them - how many miles would this trip have earned under the old accrual system?
If the fares work out reasonably to do so, then when exceeding the max fare earning ($6818 fare for an EP member ) , try and purchase as separate tickets
Even though the flight earns zero redeemable mles, my understanding is that EQMs and EQDs should still have been earned , so would have expected to see some activity
