Sir Adam Hotel, Amsterdam, A Member Of Design Hotels [Master Thread]

Don't see a thread started yet for this new property, feel free to merge if I'm missing it.

Completed a two night stay here on vacation and very pleased. Booked a Sir Boutique King/2 Singles at their special "In with the New" opening rate. As a platinum, we were upgraded to a Sir Deluxe Corner, which is their highest room other than their one suite.

My general impression is slightly different than the online reviews that I read prior to booking - one referred to this as a W Lite. My experience was that this is more what a W would be if the brand were starting today. The service was stellar - I can't tell you the last time I was walked to my room by the front desk staff, including at the Luxury Collection property I'm sitting at now or the St. Regis I was in 3 months ago. The decor was trendy and clean. And the lobby area was one that I wanted to (and did) hang out in. In reality, what we decided to describe it as was the design of a W, the elevators of a Le Meridian (each had its own art installation), and the lobby of an Aloft (not a dark club environment, but rather a true "living room" with music, a bar, games, etc. that was lively and inviting to hang out in).

Getting there was exceptionally easy. We took the train from Schiphol and walked out of the train station to the ferry, which leaves every 5 minutes, or more frequently during rush hour. The ride is 2-3 minutes across and drops you what I would call 1 city block from the hotel entrance. The ferry is free and runs 24 hours a day (and is extremely busy). Very convenient to get into central Amsterdam for sightseeing, dinner, etc. We had considered the Apollo or the Element (the W was ridiculously expensive), but are so glad we gave the Sir Adam a shot - it was much easier than taking trams.

We arrived early (11 am) and had noted this on the reservation. The upgraded room was not available (we were offered our original room type immediately if we did not want to wait), so we took an hour and a half for a long lunch and it was ready upon our return. As mentioned earlier, we were walked to our room, shown how to use the elevators (as in some newer office buildings, you enter your floor number on a touchscreen and are assigned an elevator), and had assistance with luggage. The Sir Deluxe Corners are, obviously, corners of the building, so are 4 per floor. They specifically held one of the rooms facing the city center for us and we had wonderful views.

The rooms are smaller, but very modern. They have leather throw pillows on the bed (available for purchase at reception) and a selection of vinyl albums and a player - you can select other albums on the first floor if you'd like. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in, however there was only a duvet on the bed and a heavier one at that. For those of us who get exceptionally warm while sleeping, this is a challenge - all or nothing!

The bathroom was wonderful - a sizable shower and great toiletries, though in a pump for those that have issues with that. The vanity is small - not much storage - and recessed. If you're a larger person, you may feel cramped at the vanity. From looking at the floorplan, the corner rooms are the only ones that have the shower on the outside of the room. If you're "shy" this may not be comfortable. The shower has floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city and a frosted glass "privacy bar" at the appropriate height. During the daytime, you would never see in anyway, but at night, I'm sure you could see shadows if lights were on in the room (I compare this to what Crunch gyms used to call their "peek-a-boo" showers - you see an outline of the person, but nothing specific).

I would definitely return again to the hotel, though I'm guessing I wouldn't get as great of a rate again - the hotel was sold out last weekend and is again this weekend, so assuming rates will climb quickly.
