It is well worth it. First you are traveling on a low business class fare, years ago you could use the upgrade but that has gone the way of the dodo. Other benefits are there, especially if you have any long layover for a connecting flight. United First Class lounges, at departure areas or on layovers , if available, are far above the regular Red Carpet. I would definitely give it a try and see for yourself.
