I am sure that Bronze was introduced to "give" something to those who BA didn't really value, but wanted to incentivize to move up to silver.

Bronze really says - "We only gave you this to shut you up. So shut up." (And, yes, I lost my Bronze due to flying with other airlines. I only hit 290 in the last membership year.)
