I think US-Based crew would be more direct about these things. They would directly challenge OP's lie that he was 18. Technically I am not siding with OP since for the sake of safety I do agree that alcohol should only be served to people above 18, and by no means is OP entitled to alcohol being under 18. But OP quoted being carded by the FP (or SP? - would make it interesting - there are no JFK based SPs, so he/she got persuaded by their fellow FP/BC?) for being
under 21, which clearly isn't CX policy AFAIK...which is why I smell inconsistency coming from based crew presumably.
OP recalls 'having to say that he was' 18+. So presumably he was asked before he got served his first drink if he was 18+? And then the crew changed their mind and came to stop him saying that it's actually 21+? That would be plain weird to me...even AA crews don't 'card' me - like when I ask for soft drinks they sometimes even joke and say 'you're sure that's it?'
