The thing to watch is that some gates do have wooden doors to them, which on lightly filled aircraft they will try to shut at T-15 minutes, pretty much on the dot.
I thought that LCY gates shut at T-10m? That's what's been on my BPs, including as recently as early December 2016 (which I've just been able to check here).
At any rate, I agree that planning to arrive at LCY at T-1h is ample time. There would almost certainly be time to take some refreshment before heading to the gate.
