If anything, this seems like the capacity dumping that the legacies used to do to prevent LCCs like B6 from gaining market share, just for premium seats now instead.
I'm going to assume that DL did some market research that showed that SFO - BOS could support this service. The 128 corridor and the Bay Area have a lot of similar businesses (tech and biotech). I don't think that could be said for Seattle and NY.
