Sounds like it. 500 EUR for a return is indeed expensive.

For the CDG ZRH, it depends on the reason why your plans change. If it means to finish a meeting earlier, the FLEX fare (or business) is really advantageous since you can go show on an earlier flight on the same day. If you want to change to a later flight or to a different day and take this flight on short notice, you need to pay fare difference, and you need to be lucky to find 100 EUR sectors with little or no anticipation. On the other hand, you can also postpone the sector to much later when the same booking class is available and get back to ZRH as you are doing now.
In fact it will be less a matter of buying a ticket at the last minute. It is about being able to not forfeit a flight that I have bought and move it to a later date. For some reason I rarely have the case of needing a flight at short notice, but often have the case of not taking the flight that I had booked several months in the past. Plus, the times at which I am flying on these privately paid tickets tend to be the ones when lower fares tend to be available. I'll see how it works out, but my guess is that for the European route this Abonne card could actually be interesting.

Right now the only problem is that AF doesn't call back to process my application.
