Just because Amex might stay with Marriott doesn't mean that you'd have access to Starwood transfer partners. Amex might stay with Marriott while Starwood transfer policies disappear and only Marriott transfer policies remain.

The transfer partners and policies (such as the ratios) are on the Starwood end, not the Amex end. They work "with" Amex because it has a 1:1 earning ratio "everywhere". But that earning ratio might not remain either if Amex becomes a Marriott card.

So just because Amex might become a Marriott card, that doesn't mean that anything you're used to Amex SPG having (the no other Amex card has) would necessarily remain. (Obviously, if you love Amex customer service, that part would remain.)
